New search engine for Twitter will compete with Google & Bing

Users of Twitter post about 1000 tweets per second, for a total of about 90 million tweets per day. All this real-time information sharing has helped Twitter tries to transform into a threat to the search engines of Google and Bing.

Twitter has changed to a new search software that could help to put their search engine real-time social in effective competition with great players like Bing and Google search.

Twitter has completely revamped its search technology using the open source search engine Lucene to improve speed and the ability to index tweets, as well as process and return the search results.

Twitter now manages over 12,000 searches per second, adding up to more than 1 billion searches per day. new tweets now are indexed in their search engine in less than 10 seconds.

With the launch of their inverted indexed search system, Twitter is moving closer to creating a search tool on the Web that is as powerful as and more up-to-date facilities, typical search engine.
